Tech Industry Events: When and Why You Should Go
Conferences. Webinars. Exhibitions. There are so many events in the world of tech, and it can be dizzying for startups to know which they should attend. Tech industry events can be a great place to network, but they require time that takes you away from the office, your boardroom, or your product development. Understanding when and why you should attend an industry event helps you use your time more wisely.
Why Attend Tech Industry Events?
Events are a brilliant way to meet other founders and entrepreneurs and get a look at the competition. You can attend talks on trending topics, discover emerging technologies, and showcase your own achievements and innovations.
Tech conferences also attract investors who want to see what’s worth putting their money into. Your product or service should gain some much-needed exposure, especially if you can get the opportunity to speak or demonstrate your app or platform.
Creativity and collaboration are the watchwords of successful conferences. Having said that, exhausting yourself by attending every possible tech industry event could stifle your creativity and motivation.
Picking the Right Tech Industry Events
Here’s our quick cheat sheet for choosing which tech industry events to attend:
Make a list of tech events relevant to your industry niche
Take out events more than a year in the future and ones prohibitively far away
Check out the schedule of speakers and workshops—will you gain real benefit from attending?
Find out if you can attend virtually—many events in 2023 are still hybrid in order to increase accessibility
Find out if there’s an opportunity to speak or demonstrate your current tech offering
Once you’ve weeded out events that aren’t going to provide you or your firm with any value, you can consider your timing. If an event falls during a very busy time for you, you won’t learn much as you’ll be too anxious to get back to the office. Mid-deal, mid-product launch, or during an audit are not great times to head out of town to a conference.
